PANTHALASSA

The purpose of this long term project is to create awareness about the shoreline of Portugal (with special focus on the coastline of the Arrábida Natural Park) through his photography. The sea level rise due to climate change and the need for urgent climate action gave me a sense of responsibility and urgency in carrying out this project. I wanted to create a visual story that shows us and future generations the beauty of these shoreline locations. When I started photographing the shoreline in 2013, the only thing that moved me was an irresistible attraction for the fascination of these places. However, over the years, I had matured and the Panthalassa project has begun to take shape. Panthalassa (Greek πᾶν "all" and θάλασσα "ocean"), also known as the Panthalassic Ocean: the vast, global and the only ocean that surrounded the continent that existed 200-540 million years ago, during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.
